I haven’t had the most traditional path in getting to this point. I attended the University of Mississippi where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Managerial Finance. I started down the path of traditional internships and job hunting my Sophomore year just as my peers around me did. Just as I was “supposed to do”. But for the next two years, something wasn’t quite right. I didn’t love what I was doing and often questioned why I was doing it in the first place. “Is this really what I want to do with my life?” I often pondered. Yet, the pressure of the outside world remained. Those around me continued to pound into my head, “Go to school, get a job, climb the corporate ladder, go back to school, climb the ladder some more…” and on and on it goes. Until you’re sixty-five years old and you’re wondering if the whole climb was really worth everything else you had to sacrifice to get there. I didn’t want that. I never did. I was even told by one company after graduation that I seemed much more suited for podcasting or CrossFit than Finance (boy was I unprepared for that one). But, looking back, that could very well have been some of the best advice I’ve ever received.
I always knew there was something more, something bigger. I knew my life served a greater purpose than a life-long pursuit of chasing something that didn’t truly set my world on fire. For as long as I can remember I was always interested in building something. I come from a family of builders and people who love to create things while genuinely helping others in the process. There is no doubt in my mind that the influence and support of my family has played a large role in getting me to where I am today.
Somewhere during my Junior year of college I found this thing called podcasting. And I’ll never forget how I got started. Being involved in the CrossFit community I started to hear the term, “Podcast” being referenced more and more frequently. Yet, initially, I had no idea what one even was. It wasn’t until someone close to me was asked to be on one that I finally learned exactly what is was all about. We traveled down an old dirt road in Tennessee to a small barn in the middle of the woods and, to be completely honest, it was a little frightening at first. But little did I know the impact that experience would eventually have on the direction and purpose of my life. After seeing their studio, hearing the powerful stories shared, and the lasting friendships that would ensue, I knew that this was something I needed to learn more about and get into. So, like almost everything else in my life I dove in head first and quickly started my first Podcast, “Up Before You” in early 2018. Since then I have created over one hundred episodes of Up Before You and many others for businesses and individuals alike. Now, I’m on a mission to help tell impactful stories that matter for you and your organization.
